Fixed arrow-shaped delineators that emit light from LEDs indicate the road edge to improve the efficiency of snow removal and allow drivers to recognize the road edge when visibility is poor in snowstorms. The LEDs are powered by solar cells and other energy sources.

Emergency evacuation facilities like these are constructed at locations where poor visibility from drifting snow often occurs and where snowdrifts often form. These shelters feature emergency evacuation lanes in addition to normal driving lanes. Some parking shelters have drink vending machines, toilets, road camera image monitor displays and public phones.
